WHERE WE ARE
The
Cairns city area itself is a long, narrow coastal strip
edged between the Coral Sea and the Great
Dividing Range. The area extends from Ellis Beach
in the north to Russell River in the south, and covers
more than 1600 sq.km.
Cairns local area includes Queenslands highest mountain, Mt
Bartle Frere, and is the gateway to two of the world's
greatest natural attractions and World Heritage listed
treasures - the Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics
rainforests. Mountains, beaches, tidal wetlands,
freshwater lakes, mudflats, mangrove swamps, bays, rivers,
estuaries, and rich coastal plains are the dominant
features of this tropical environment.
